Series : Buzz Out Loud from CNET
Description :
In the U.K., you don't have to be in the presence of someone to serve them with legal papers. So now Twitter has become a way to get served. We also are happy that the U.S. government is taking cybersecurity seriously, but maybe they could lay off with the cyber prefix a little. And we try to care more about the Palm Pixi. We really do. loadUniversalPlayer({playerType: 'small',lumiereQueryType: 'id',lumiereQueryValue: '50077539',useCurrentPageUrl: true, relatedVideo: false, preRollAd: true, hideLeftTab:true, wrapperFloat:'left'}); Listen now: Download today's podcast

This reminded me of my favorite recent example. During a forced rewatching of Phantom Menace, I noticed something oddly familiar about Liam Neeson’s little communicator thingie. On closer look, it was clearly my wife’s Gillette Ladies Sensor Excell Razor Handle (which I see on the shower shelf every day) painted silver with a couple nub antennae stuck on the top. http://www.partsofsw.com/Ep_1/quicom.htm I suspect Buzztown can come up with dozens of even better examples. Namaste! Hi! I’m Tushar, from Ludhiana, India and probably the only listener in the town!!!
A couple of days ago When I checked in my facebook page, I was redirected to their lite.facebook.com page
and the cool thing was that I couldn’t revert back to the normal page!!!
On doing some research I came to know that it was a problem with a couple other users back here in India where facebook randomly picked them as their beta testers for lite.facebook.com but we all CANNOT go back to the normal facebook!!!!
Please read this e-mail on the show so the facebook guys at least know that we wanna go back, cause we people tried ( http://www.facebook.com/topic.php?uid=129521886143&topic=13597 ) bu

FS #274: The Informant! / Top 5 2009 Toronto Film Fest Movies

Contributor : SpeakUpStudios
Series : Filmspotting
Description :
Sept. 18: LIVE from a makeshift dais outside the original Maple Leaf Gardens

Q: Ballgame, you’re coming off a tough road trip to the Toronto International Film Fest -- over 30 films in four days -- how do you think team Filmspotting held up?

A: Well, obviously we’re tired, but I’m proud of the guys. You know, dealing with the time change, the gravy on the French fries, the sometimes smothering congeniality of Canadians... it was a challenge. But I think people will be pleased when we lay out our Top 5 Toronto Film Fest Movies.

Q: What about other reviewers like Phillips and Ebert, who are likely seeing hundreds of films over two weeks?

A: Look, we can’t focus on what other reviewers or other podcasts are doing. We just have to take it segment by segment, discussion by discussion, film by film, and bring a solid 90 minutes of criticism to the show. Look what Kempy brought to the table during our review of "The Informant!" I mean, here’s a guy that loves director Steven Soderbergh, and this film starring Matt Damon as a notorious corporate whistleblower is generally eliciting a lot of love from the critics -- it would have been easy for Adam to phone this one in. But, no, he stepped it up. He brought his ‘A’ game and BAM, what do you get? Point-by-point, generally articulate dissection of an overall pretty middling film. That’s Kempy being Kempy and why he gets paid the big bucks. And by big bucks I mean he gets paid in hugs and beer.

Q: What about some of the feedback you’ve been getting from the fans?

A: Look, we love our fans, we wouldn’t be here without them and we’ve got a great batch of Listener Feedback on this week’s show, as well another cringe-worthy rendition of Massacre Theatre and music by Heroes of Popular Wars. Overall, we think it’s a great show. Are we satisfied? No, we can never be satisfied; we’re not a .500 podcast; to compete with the big guys, we’ve got to step it up, but as long that microphone is on, we’ll keep bringing the heat.

Massacre Theatre is presented by Pixar Talk. This week's winner will get the Pixar DVD of their choice.

Philips Prestigo 8-Device Universal Remote

Series : Woot! - One Day, One Deal
Description :
Prestigo Change-oNo one said this was going to be easyThis suuuucks! Why’s everything have to be such a (wheeze!) pain in the be-hind? I mean, it’s not the Middle Ages anymore! I shouldn’t be expected to bust my hump doing MANUAL LABOR every time I want the simplest thing! (Wheeze!) Like with this (wheeze!) Prestigo universal remote! What, every time I want to change the channel on my TV, or adjust the volume, or listen to the radio, or watch something from my DVR library, I have to press a button with my thumb? (Wheeze!) By HAND? Maaaan, I’ve only been watching TV for six hours and my thumb is already like (wheeze!) totally worn out! Shouldn’t there be TVs that I can control by blinking, or with my thoughts or something? I’m tiiiired! Why do I have to slave over this remote every time I want to change channels? Plus the transmission angle is only (wheeze!) 90 degrees! That means some of the time, if it’s not pointed within a 180-degree range of the television already, I can’t just poke at it with one finger; I have to actually PICK IT UP and aim it! Yes, with my arm muscles! (Wheeze!) Do you know how hard that is? I’m getting winded just thinking about it. Thankfully the Judge Judy Marathon is on, so I won’t have to worry about that possibility for another four hours, anyway. I guess it’s nice that this remote combines functions for common multi-step activities like “watch a movie” or “listen to CD.” When I (wheeze!) push the “watch a movie” button, it does all the right stuff: turns on the TV, switches on the amplifier and selects the right input, turns on the the (wheeze!) DVD player and start playing. But how does that DVD get in the player in the first place? I’ll tell you (wheeze!)—I PUT IT IN THERE. Yeah, manually! I had to (wheeze!) lumber over there and PHYSICALLY LOAD IT IN! And if I ever want to watch a different DVD? You guessed it, I have to UNLOAD that one and REPEAT the same process with a different disc. (Wheeze!) That’s why I’ve seen Just Married seventeen times since Monday. But also, check it out: This remote can only control my TV, VCR, satellite, DVD, tuner, CD player, TiVo and receiver, plus (wheeze!) some other stuff! What if I want dinner? For that I have to PICK UP a phone and actually HOLD IT TO MY HEAD the whole time I’m telling them what kinds of pizza I want! It’s EXHAUSTING. (Wheeze!) And what if I drop the rag-on-a-stick that I use to periodically sweep the feces out from underneath my body and onto the floor beside my easy chair? I HAVE TO GET UP AND FETCH IT MYSELF, that’s what! (Wheeze!) What is this, THE PIONEER DAYS?Warranty: 90 Day Philips Features:

I work as a tech for a movie exhibitor and wanted to share some technical details about your ongoing discussion of 3D. Tom, the reason you may have experienced flicker or strobing in the past is the rate at which you are presented frames. The old active glasses that came with computer video cards often were limited to 60Hz, giving only 30 frames/sec to each eye. Our modern Digital Cinema 3D uses what’s called ‘tripple flash’ alternating EVERY frame to each eye three times. In other words it’s operating at 144 frames/sec from film’s standard 24 fps times 6 (3 flashes of the same image * 2 eyes). This is easily fast enough that ‘persistance of vision’ eliminates the strobing. At our chain we actually have many rooms setup with two projectors, one for each eye. This completely eliminates strobing as the screen never goes dark. As for camming a 3D film, you’d simply scrap the 3D aspect and hold one lens of the glasses over the camera and just record one eye’s worth. Makes it 2D, but you still have something. You can even try this in the studio right now, cover one eye. Congratulations your world is now in stunning 2D! And for the show notes… Even traditional 35mm film is shown as ‘double flash’. The slow 24 fps you’d get if you only showed each frame once nearly everyone would say is flickering. But just by blankin
